Tottenham Hotspur travel to Eastern Europe to face Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of their Round of 32 UEFA Cup tie at the Lokomotiv Stadium on Thursday. Shakhtar Donetsk join the UEFA Cup in the round of 32 having failed to make the cut in the Champions League. They finished third in a group that also consisted of Barcelona, Sporting and Basel with nine points from six games.

Brazilian Jadson scored four goals in the group stages of the competition. He, along with fellow Brazilians Fernandinho and Willian, will look to give Shakhtar a lead that they can take to White Hart Lane. Croatian midfielder Darijo Srna, a very gifted playmaker, is Shakhtar’s captain. Czech defender Tomáš Hübschman is suspended for this game.

 

 

Spurs finished second in Group D, two points behind leaders Udinese. Darren Bent also got a hat trick against Dinamo Zagreb, and the former Charlton hitman is expected to lead the Spurs attack, with Roman Pavlyuchenko and Jermain Defoe both being cup tied. Robbie Keane is also ineligible for Spurs because they could not register him before the deadline. Wilson Palacios, Carlo Cudicini and Pascal Chimbonda are eligible to play though. With Fraizer Campbell and Bent the only available strikers, the onus will be on playmaker Luka Modric to deliver a match winning performance. Gareth Bale will miss the next game if he gets booked.
