Atletico Madrid dropped more points last weekend, which means they have now only won once in their last seven league games. Stuck in sixth position on 38 points, they find a whole group of teams bunched around them, all vying for those coveted Champions League qualifying spots. Atletico’s form of late is definitely not Champions League qualifying form, and an away game to Sevilla is certainly not what is required to try and get the season back on track. Atletico entertained Getafe last weekend and dropped another two points, as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Atletico were unlucky in the fact that Getafe managed to equalise in the 88^th minute of the encounter. Top scorer for the team this season, Diego Forlan, grabbed Atletico’s goal in the 33^rd minute but they couldn’t add to this and as the old saying goes – while the game is still only at one goal difference, anything can happen, despite how well you may be playing. And it did, in the 88^th minute! Just how much Atletico will rue these dropped points at the end of the season is anyone’s guess at the moment but one thing is for sure – if they don’t start picking up points soon, they will miss out on the Champions League football next year that they have so enjoyed thus far this season.

For their part, Sevilla come into this match having returned to winning ways after three winless games. They beat Espanyol in Barcelona by 2-0 and are now three points clear of Valencia in third spot. Their home record is very average for a team that is sitting in third position though, with six wins, two draws and four defeats from their twelve games.
