After bringing Bristol City’s 100% home record to an end, Scunthorpe United turn their attention to the League Cup where they will face Port Vale in a third round fixture on Tuesday night. Grant McCann scored an equaliser in the third minute of injury time as Scunthorpe held Bristol City to a 1-1 in their weekend Championship game. The result capped an excellent week for the Iron, who also beat Crystal Palace and Preston North End to move up to 13^th in the table.

Nigel Adkins’ men beat Swansea 2-1 in the previous round of the competition. It was the first time in 21 years that Scunthorpe progressed beyond the second round, and the result was achieved in rather farcical circumstances as Swansea ended the game with seven men. Niall Canavan and Gary Hooper were the scorers for Scunthorpe at the Liberty Stadium.

Port Vale suffered their first defeat in five league games as they were beaten 1-0 by Bury on Saturday. The Valiants did not put Bury keeper Wayne Brown under pressure, and needless to say, manager Micky Adams was disappointed with the performance of his boys in a home fixture.

Port Vale beat Sheffield United in the first round, and then followed it up by beating Sheffield Wednesday in the second round. Kris Taylor and Robert Taylor scored twice in two minutes as the Staffordshire outfit won 2-0 at Vale Park.
