Scotland take on Croatia in their first match since the 2-1 defeat to Italy in their final Euro 2008 qualifying campaign with coach George Burley looking at various options to build the team for future.
Rangers defender David Weir is the only high profile omission by Burley though the Scotland boss was quick to assure that the 37-year old defender continues to be a key player for Scotland. Burley revealed that Weir was rested for the friendly and will be back for the World Cup qualifiers with the coach keen to look at other options in the friendly clash against Croatia.
Hearts defender Christophe Berra and Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher have been called up to the national team with Burley praising the form shown by Berra in the Scottish league. Sunderland midfielder Russell Anderson has been recalled to the squad while Craig Beattie is unavailable for selection due to injury.
Meanwhile Croatia coach Slaven Bilic has dismissed rumors that he will quit the national job after Euro 2008, stating that he would like to continue as the national coach at least until the World Cup in 2010. Bilic has been widely tipped to take over a Premier League club and though the 39-year old admitted that he would be interested in managing a club, it will only be after the World Cup.
Croatia play Moldova and Hungary next before taking part in the Euro 2008 championship where they have been clubbed in Group B along with Austria, Poland and Germany.
