SC Braga face a Herculean task when they welcome Werder Bremen to the Muncipal Stadium in Braga this Thursday. The Portuguese club may very well pay for missing two penalties in their first leg of the UEFA Cup round of 32.

Roland Linz and Jorginho missed penalties for the club at crucial times and allowed Bremen to seize the initiative with a 3-0 win at home. Goals from Naldo, Daniel Jensen and a penalty conversion from Hugo Almeida allowed the German club to build a comfortable cushion going into the second leg.

Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese was the star of the game as he saved two crucial penalties that would otherwise have allowed Braga two precious away goals. Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf would have been delighted with his side's performance and will hope they can wrap it up without any hassles.

Braga have replaced coach Jorge Costa with Manuel Machado after a series of poor results in the Portuguese Liga. With there appearing to be no hope of finishing high enough in the domestic league, the UEFA Cup seems to be the only hope of staying in Europe.

Braga ill still retain hope of turning the tables on Bremen as they had overcome Hammarby 4-0 at home during the group stage of the UEFA Cup. The club also beat FC Slovan Liberec 4-0 during last season's competition.
