Wales manager John Toshack will be happy if his side manages to collect at least a point from their second World Cup qualifying match when they play Russia on Wednesday. Watch live World Cup qualifiers here on Live Sport Network.
Wales were almost embarrassed by group minnows Azerbaijan in their opening match on Saturday and had to rely on 18-year old Sam Vokes who scored his first Wales goal of his career in the seven minutes from the final whistle. Having warned his side that they need to make a perfect start to their qualifying campaign, Toshack would have been disappointed by Wales' performance in the first half as Azerbaijan matched them for much of the first half. Wales should have had taken the lead in the first half when they were awarded a penalty but Jason Koumas failed to convert from the spot and only Vokes' goal in the 83rd minute helped them claim all three points from the match.
Koumas admitted that he could miss Wales' clash against Russia on Wednesday. The Wigan Athletic player had to take three injections before the match against Azerbaijan but it is doubtful whether he can repeat the process on Wednesday. Should Koumas not take the field against Russia, Toshack will be without five key players for a match which could decide whether Wales can put up a good challenge to claim at least the second spot. Craig Bellamy, Freddy Eastwood, James Collins and Danny Gabbidon are all out of action for the Wednesday's clash with Gareth Bale also complaining of a groin injury, though he should be fit to play in Moscow.
Russia go into the match on the back of a hard fought draw against Netherlands on Saturday with Konstatin Zurianov canceling out Robin Van Persie's goal late in the 77th minute.
