Russia managed to stay alive in the tournament by showing the exit door to defending champions Greece. The Russians squeaked through to a narrow 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Konstantin Zyryanov.

However it was an error of judgement from Greece goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis that allowed Russia captain Sergei Semak to seek out Zyryanov. Nikopolidsis came out to chase a ball that was clearly going out of touch when Semak pounced.

Russia coach Guus Hiddink will be aware that the match against Sweden will not be easy and will want his side to sharpen up defensively ahead of the game.

 

 

Sweden were unlucky to lose out to Spain 1-2 in their second Group D game. David Villa's last gasp winner put Spain through to the quarterfinals and left Sweden needing a win against Russia to go through.

Earlier Fernando Torres had given Spain the lead in the 15th minute, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic had equalized for Sweden in the 34th minute.

Sweden coach Lars Lagerback will probably name an unchanged line-up, but could choose to beef up his attacking options for the game against Russia.
