Romania coach Victor Piturca sprung a surprise on Euro 2008 observers as he omitted Dinamo Bucharest striker Florin Bratu out of his final 23-man squad. Danut Coman, Ovidiu Petre and Ciprian Deac miss out with injuries.

This is Romania's first Euro since the 2008 edition and Piturca will be determined to make an impression in what has been labeled the Euro 2008 Group of death. Group C also features Italy and the Netherlands besides France and Romania.

France are one of the early pre-tournament favorites boasting of a star-studded squad. France coach Raymond Domenech has not made many changes to the personnel that reached the final of the FIFA World Cup in 2006. In goalkeeper Gregory Coupet who is aged 35; France have perhaps the best goalkeeper never to have played for his country in his younger days owing to one Fabien Barthez. With names like Franck Ribery, Patrick Vieira and Claude Makelele, the French have wonderful balance in their midfield.

Emerging talents include Hatem Ben Arfa, Samir Nasri and Sidney Gouvou. Patrick Viera is battling to get fit and Mathieu Flamini has been called as cover.
