After being shocked by Basel in their group opener, Italian giants AS Roma will be looking to pick up their first points in Group E when they host CSKA Sofia at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday. Roma had numerous opportunities to clear the ball away from danger, and paid for their poor defending when Carlitos struck a wonder goal from long range to put Basel ahead. The Giallorossi had their chances to get themselves back on level terms, but were simply unable to find the back of the net.

CSKA drew their opening game against Fulham in Bulgaria. Substitute Michel opened the scoring for CSKA just after the hour mark, but Fulham hit back through Diomansy Kamara. Kosta Yanev’s cross was guided by Marquinhos into the path of Michel, and he conjured a goal from twenty yards out to put CSKA ahead.

Both Marquinhos and Michel were on target in CSKA’s win over Montana on Saturday. The side from the capital won 2-1, and currently lead the A PFG table on goal difference from Chernomorets.
