Roma will be hoping to avoid getting knocked out of the Champions League by an English club when they welcome Arsenal in the second leg of their knockout stage on Wednesday. Arsenal hold a slender lead in the tie thanks to a Robin Van Persie goal from the penalty spot in the first leg. However manager Arsene Wenger admitted that his side should have had won by a bigger margin and will be hoping that the missed chances will not come to haunt his side as he looks to qualify for the quarter finals for only the third time in last five seasons.

Roma though have a very poor record of staging a comeback in the second leg. The Italian side have managed to progress to the next stage just six time out of a possible 16 after losing the first leg. Luciano Spalletti's side have been knocked out of the competition in the last two seasons by an English side though they have made it to the quarter finals on both the occasions.

 

 

Arsenal will have fond memories of playing a knockout stage in Italy, having beaten Milan 2-0 at San Siro in the second leg of the knockout stage last season. The Gunners have won three of their last four matches on Italian soil including a 3-1 thumping of Roma during the 2002-03 season.

Roma on the other hand have had a mixed home record against English opponents, winning six and drawing three of the 12 matches played at the Stadio Olimpico. With the final being held at their stadium, Roma fans will be hopeful that their team will go on a strong run and manage to return to Stadio Olimpico to take part in only their second Champions League final.
