Republic of Ireland welcome Montenegro in their final World Cup qualifying match on Wednesday with both the teams looking to end their campaign with a victory. Ireland have already booked their place in the play offs to be played next month. Giovanni Trapattoni's side assured a second place finish on Saturday with an excellent display in their 2-2 draw against World Champions Italy.

Glenn Whelan opened the scoring for Ireland early in the 8th minute only for Mauro Camoranesi to equalize in the 26th minute. Ireland were celebrating in the 87th minute when Sean St. Ledger restored their lead but Italy hit back late in injury time through Alberto Gilardino to secure a point and qualify directly to next year's World Cup. While Trapattoni will be disappointed with the late goal, the Ireland coach will be nevertheless pleased with his side's performances in the qualifying campaign and will now be looking forward to the play offs draw that is scheduled to take place on October 19.

Meanwhile Montenegro coach Zoran Filipovic will be hoping to finish at least fourth in the group table with a victory over Ireland. Expected to challenge for a play offs spot, Montenegro has had a disappointing qualifying campaign with just one win from their nine games. Montenegro registered their first win of their qualifying campaign on Saturday as they secured a hard fought 2-1 victory over Georgia. Radoslav Batak put Montenegro in the lead early in the first half but Vladimer Dvalishvili equalized on stroke of half time only for Andrija Delibasic to wrap up the victory with the winner in the 78th minute.
