Italy face a tricky trip to Republic of Ireland in their next World Cup qualifying match but will be confident of wrapping up their place in the World Cup finals next year by avoiding defeat this Saturday. The Azzurri are unbeaten in their qualifying campaign and are four points clear of Ireland at the top of their group table. While Italy are expected to secure a win against Cyprus in their final game, coach Marcello Lippi will be keen to complete their qualification process on Saturday with his side needing to just draw the game to confirm their place in South Africa next year. Italy have won four of their last five matches and have conceded just one goal in their last four including a comfortable 2-0 win over Bulgaria in their last game. Fabio Grosso opened the scoring in the 11th minute while Vincenzo Iaquinta doubled the lead five minutes before the half time whistle.

Ireland on the other hand need to win just one of their last two games to extend their qualifying campaign to the play-offs. Giovanni Trapattoni's side have had an excellent qualifying campaign so far and are currently five points clear of third placed Bulgaria.

Ireland will book their place in the play-offs regardless of their result in the final two games should Bulgaria fail to win either of their two games though Trapattoni will be keen to take a real shot in toppling Italy from the top of their group table. Trapattoni will be without Damien Duff, Darron Gibson and Steven Reid with the trio out of action due to injuries. Martin Rowlands has been called up as replacement instead of Andy Reid who impressed during Sunderland's 2-2 draw against Manchester United last weekend.
