The Portuguese winger has missed Madrid's last nine matches after aggravating an ankle injury but is expected to return to training on Friday. While the club has not yet said when he would be able to play, Ronaldo could make it at least to the bench against Racing Santander in order to get some match practice before the El Clasico next weekend against Barcelona.

Racing Santander on the other hand are without a win in their last seven league games and find themselves just outside the relegation zone thanks to a superior goal difference compared to Atletico Madrid.

Santander will be without a coach for the game after Juan Carlos Mandia was sacked from his position following a poor run of form. Juanjo Gonzalez has been appointed as the caretaker manager until a permanent coach is found.
