Although Los Merengues did show glimpses of brilliance, they were frustrated by Ittihad's defensive tactics, and the first half ended goalless. Real legend Raul broke the deadlock ten minutes into the second half, but Hicham Aboucherouane, arguably Ittihad's best player on the day, equalised by heading home Al Saqri's free kick. While Kaka was not present, the crowd at the Bernabeu did get to see both Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in action. Goalie Jerzy Dudek made some impressive saves later in the game, and could get another chance between the sticks against Quito. LDU Quito crushed Ittihad 3-1 in their tournament opener in Jerez, and will qualify from Group B at Real Madrid's expense if they avoid defeat. The 2008 Copa Libertadores champions took the lead against Ittihad thanks to an early goal from Neicer Reasco. ![]() Wingback Paul Ambrosi doubled Quito's lead just before half time, and Claudio Graf made it 3-0 in the second half. Ittihad did manage to pull one back through Saud Khariri, thereby preventing Quito from keeping a clean sheet. Hitman Claudio Bieler did not start against Ittihad, but his seventeen goal tally at home may convince Jorge Fossati to put him on the pitch from the beginning against Real's Galacticos. Can Real Madrid get the result they need and book their spot in the next phase of the competition? Or will LDU Quito shock the Spanish giants on their own home ground?
