Both the teams are in a comfortable position in the group, with BATE Borisov four points behind in third place. But both will be fighting hard to claim the top spot in the group table. Juventus struck the first blood in their last match, securing a 2-1 victory over Madrid at Stadio Olimpico.
Alessandro Del Piero put Juventus in an early lead by scoring the first goal in the 5th minute before Amauri doubled the lead four minutes into the second half. Madrid tried to stage a late come back with Rudd Van Nistelrooy reducing the deficit in the 66th minute but Juventus hung on to claim a vital victory that puts them just a win away from booking their place in the knockout stages.
Madrid will be hoping to move to the top of the group with a comfortable victory over Juventus on Wednesday. Juventus' last visit to Santiago Bernabeu was during the first knockout round of the 2004-05 season with Madrid securing a 1-0 victory, though Juve's 2-0 win in the second leg was enough to send them to the quarter finals.
Bernd Schuster will be expecting a positive response from his side after they suffered a shock defeat to Real Union Irun in their Copa del Rey match. Ruben de la Red is not expected to take part in the game with the midfielder collapsing during the game against Real Union after just 13 minutes.
While subsequent tests have not shown any health problems, the Spanish midfielder is expected to be placed on a recovery program that will see him miss some matches for the club. Rudd Van Nistelrooy is also a doubt for this Champions League game with the Dutch striker suffering from a knee injury.
