Two defeats in their last five matches has seen Atletico slip down from fourth to sixth in the league table and the club is in a serious danger of missing out on a European campaign next season. While Los colchoneros currently occupy the final UEFA Cup spot for the next season, they are just one point ahead of Malaga while Deportivo LaCoruna are just two points behind.

Atletico secured a comfortable 3-1 win over Sporting last weekend to remain in touch with Valencia in the race for the final Champions League spot. Diego Forlan, Simao and Sergio Aguero scored a goal each in space of 20 minutes midway through the match and though Mate Bilic reduced the deficit, Sporting were unable to stage a comeback in the second half as Atletico romped home to a comfortable victory.

Betis on the other hand are still embroiled in a relegation battle as the season enters its final five rounds. Jose Maria Nogues' side just four points above the relegation zone and go into their match against Atletico on the back of two straight defeats.

Atletico will be confident of collecting all three points on Saturday having secured comfortable victories on their last two visits to Estadio Manuel Ruiz de Lopera and have already beaten Betis 2-0 early this season.
