Flush from their 7-0 thrashing of Valladolid, defending champions Real Madrid take on Real Betis in their next La Liga title as they look to extend their lead at the top of the league table.

Madrid bounced back from their first defeat in over 11 matches with a brilliant attacking performance against newly promoted Valladolid side. Bernd Schuster's side was on the attack right from the kick off and raced to a 5-0 lead by half time.

Julio Baptista put Madrid in front in the 9th minute and Los Merengues turned on the style midway through the first half, scoring four goals in space of 13 minutes through Arjen Robben, Guti and Raul with the Madrid captain scoring two. Guti added the sixth just past the hour mark with Royston Drenthe completing the proceedings 10 minutes before full time.

The win saw Madrid go eight points clear at the top of the table and with just 15 matches remaining in the season, Schuster will be confident that his side will emerge as champions for the second year running. Madrid will be without Christoph Metzelder and Robinho who are both out injured.

Meanwhile Real Betis form has improved following the departure of Hector Cuper with four wins and two draws from their last 10 matches lifting the club to 16th in the league. Coach Francisco Chaparro will have to stage yet another rescue act this season after he helped the club avoid relegation by winning the final game of the season after Luis Fernandez resigned from his position.
