Reading looked to have snapped out of a miserable run of eight straight defeats with two wins in a row but expectedly lost to Liverpool in their last match. Liverpool were made to struggle throughout the game with Reading taking the lead through Marek Matejovsky but goals from Javier Mascherano and Fernando Torres ensured that Liverpool collected all three points from the clash.

The win leaves Reading just three points above the drop zone and with just eight matches remaining, manager Steve Coppell will be hopeful that his side will collect the necessary points needed to keep their Premiership status alive for the next season.

Meanwhile Birmingham City fans will be disappointed that their side was unable to take advantage of Newcastle United's poor run of form and only managed a 1-1 draw on Monday. Birmingham took the lead through James McFadden in the first half but Michael Owen snatched a point by scoring the equalizer 11 minutes into the second half.

Birmingham City had managed a 1-1 draw against Reading early this season and manager Alex McLeish will be happy with a similar result this time around.
