The Gers preserved their four-point lead over Celtic by beating Hibernian 1-4 on Sunday. Kenny Miller struck his third double in just under 10 days, while Kris Boyd and Nacho Novo got the other goals. This was after Hibs had taken a shock first minute lead through Anthony Stokes.

The win took Rangers to 40 points from 17 games played so far and manager Walter Smith will be happy with their position as they head into the season's second Old Firm derby on Sunday. Kevin Thomson continues to be sidelined with a calf injury. Pedro Mendes is also some way off making an appearance, but Maurice Edu could play some part in the game.

Meanwhile Dundee United began their post-Craig Levein era with a poor 0-0 draw against Kilmarnock on Boxing Day. Caretaker boss Peter Houston will hope his side far better against Rangers than they did against Kille at Tannadice over the weekend.

The draw still sees the team placed fourth on the league table with 28 points from 16 games played so far. Morgaro Gomis returns from suspension, but Lee Wilkie and striker Francisco Sandaza remain sidelined with knee and groin injuries respectively.
