The Socceroos are on top of Group 1 of the Asia-Oceania qualifying rounds with 13 points from 5 games; two more than Japan. In their last game, they defeated Uzbekistan 2-0 thanks to goals from Josh Kennedy and Harry Kewell.

Australia coach Pim Verbeek would be delighted with his side's showing so far and will hope they can clinch their ticket to South Africa on Saturday itself. Verbeek revealed that he offered former skipper Mark Viduka a chance to turn out ion the green and gold outfits once again, but Viduka turned the offer down as he wanted to take time off and ponder his future.

Viduka has appeared in 43 matches for Australia and captained his side in the last World Cup in Germany. His decision to forgo these matches may mean the end of his international career.

Meanwhile Verbeek has included youngsters Rhys Williams and Dario Vidosic for the first time in the squad, while goalkeeper Brad Jones has been recalled. Midfielder Vince Grella, who missed the Socceroos' last game is also included as is Tim Cahill.

Qatar on the other hand are bottom of Group 1 with four points from six games. With their qualification hopes shattered, the team will be playing for pride and will hope to showcase their skills in front of home fans over the weekend.
