PNE continued their impressive start to the season as they beat Coventry City 3-2 at home on Saturday. Alan Irvine’s men trailed 1-0 at half time to Sammy Clingan’s strike, but things changed in twenty odd second half minutes as Chris Brown scored twice, with a Neil Mellor goal sandwiched in between.

Brown has already scored thrice in the Carling Cup this season. He scored in PNE’s 5-1 mauling of Morecambe in the first round, and scored both the goals in a hard fought 2-0 win over Leicester City in the second round.

Spurs fell to their second successive defeat as Chelsea beat them 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. Adding insult to injury were injuries to Ledley King and Sebastien Bassong, neither of whom are likely to be able to play against PNE. Jonathan Woodgate is also out, while Michael Dawson has a very slim chance of returning from injury. Manager Harry Redknapp is expected to cobble together a makeshift back four, with Vedran Corluka and Tom Huddlestone at the heart of it.

Tottenham have had a great record in the Carling Cup in the past few seasons. In 2006-07, they reached the semis, and won the trophy the following year. Last season, they were beaten by Man United on penalties at Wembley.
