Preston will be hoping to spring an upset when they take on Liverpool in their FA Cup third round clash at the Deepdale Stadium on Saturday. Catch all the live FA Cup action here on Live Sport Network.

Preston had a fairly good tournament last season, starting off with a narrow 1-0 win over Scunthorpe United before a brilliant performance against Derby County in the next round. A brace from Karl Hawley and another goal by Simon Whaley put Preston in a 3-0 lead by the first half.

 

 

Derby tried to stage a come back in the second half with Robert Earnshaw reducing the deficit in the 55th minute but Preston held on to their two goal advantage before Neil Mellor added a fourth in the final minute of the game to secure a comfortable victory. However Whaley proved to be villain for Preston in the fifth round, failing to convert from the penalty spot before an own goal by Darren Carter securing the win for Portsmouth.

Meanwhile Steven Gerrard's participation for Liverpool in the match is in serious doubt after the England midfielder was arrested for an assault on Monday. Gerrard was later released on bail and though the 28-year old has returned to training, manager Rafa Benitez is expected to rest him for the tie.

 

 

Liverpool will be looking to win their first FA Cup since 2006. Last season saw Liverpool start their campaign on a shay note with Luton Town holding them to a 1-1 draw but Liverpool secured a comfortable 5-0 win in the replay. The Kops went on to beat Havant & Waterlooville 5-2 in the fourth round but suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Barnsley in the fifth round with Stephen Foster canceling out Dirk Kuyt's goal before Brian Howard grabbed the winner in injury time.
