Tipped to secure a comfortable passage to the knockout stages, Spain needed a controversial red card in their final group game against Chile to confirm their participation in the next stage. The Spanish side had taken a 2-0 lead before half time through David Villa and Andres Iniesta but Chile managed to reduce the deficit and almost equalized late in the game even though they were reduced to 10 men.

With Fernando Torres struggling to find form, Villa will be the key for Spain with the Barcelona striker scoring three of the four goals that helped Spain finish at the top of their group table.

There are no major injury concerns for Spain and coach Vicente del Bosque will be optimistic that his side can secure a comfortable passage to the quarter finals.
