Portugal needed a win against Hungary on Saturday, and managed to do just that. They took the lead through Simao on 18 minutes. Bosingwa’s ball into the box arrived for Cristiano Ronaldo, whose cross was fumbled by Hungarian keeper Gabor Babos. Simao was on hand to score from close range.

Liedson doubled Portugal’s lead by heading in Bruno Alves’ cross on 74 minutes, and victory was confirmed when Simao volleyed in Duda’s cross five minutes later. John Buttigieg’s men are also yet to score in qualifying, but have already shipped in twenty two goals. Malta’s last game was an international friendly against Angola on Saturday, which the Black Antelopes won 2-1. Andrew Cohen put Malta ahead on 12 minutes, but Angola equalised through Djalma Campos in the 37^th minute. Andre Macanga’s 64^th minute strike allowed Angola to complete their comeback.

Portugal crushed Malta 4-0 when the two teams met in September 2008.
