Blackburn built on their excellent performance against Chelsea by notching up back to back victories over Birmingham City and Burnley to move into the top half of the league table. A David Dunn penalty early in the first half was enough for Blackburn to complete a double over their arch rivals and consolidate their position in the top half of the table.

With his side set to face Manchester United and Everton in the next two games, manager Sam Allardyce will be hopeful that his side can collect all three points against Portsmouth and go into the match against United high on confidence.

Blackburn will be without Míchel Salgado who was stretchered off the field against Burnley with a foot injury while there are fitness concerns over Ryan Nelsen, Keith Andrews and Yildiray Basturk who are yet to recover from their injuries.

Meanwhile Portsmouth manager Avram Grant will be hopeful that his side will continue fighting in the remaining six games of the season. Pompey could be relegated this weekend if they fail to win against Blackburn and West Ham collect all three points against Everton on Sunday.
