After registering their first win of the season before the international break, Pompey have managed to collect just one point from their last two games and still sit at the foot of the table, five points clear of safety.
With more than a quarter of the season gone manager Paul Hart will be hoping that his side can finally kick start their season and hope that they are within reach of lifting themselves out of the relegation zone come January when the club is expected to be busy in the transfer market.
Pompey were once again in the news for their off field problems when media reports surfaced that new owner Ali Al-Faraj has bought the club for some quick investment and will be offloading the club as soon as he is offered an amount which nets him a profit.
However the Pompey board has dismissed the reports and has threatened legal action against the newspaper with Al-Faraj stating that he had made his intentions clear when he had appointed Avram Grant as the new director of football.
Portsmouth will be looking to avenge their last season's defeat against Wigan which saw the Latics secure a 2-1 win in this fixture before completing a double with a narrow 1-0 win in the return leg.
Wigan are favorites to once again secure all three points on Saturday with the club winning two of their last four matches including a convincing 3-1 win over Burnley last weekend.
However Wigan will be without Maynor Figueroa after the influential defender injured his knee ligaments during the game against Burnley. Watch every second of live Premiership action by signing up with us here on Live Sport Network
