The Potters’ recent good form has lifted the club to just one point away from breaking into the top half of the table and while there is no danger of relegation battle, manager Tony Pulis will be pushing his players to achieve their highest finish in more than three decades.

Stoke go into the match on the back of a hard fought 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Tuesday. The Potters had taken the lead Glenn Whelan and though Gareth Barry had equalized for City, Stoke looked to have won the game when Ryan Shawcross headed in a Rory Delap throw in only for the referee to rule out the effort.

Stoke will be missing Abdoulaye Faye who was sent off during the game while Matthew Etherington is out with a knee injury.

Portsmouth on the other hand will be hoping to build on their excellent performance in the FA Cup and stage a late push for survival. With Peter Storrie revealing that the club is very close to another takeover manager Avram Grant will be hopeful that the new administration will provide some stability to the club as he looks to pull off a miraculous escape from relegation.
