Manager Tony Adams is off to a decent start since being appointed as the successor to Harry Redknapp and after back to back defeats in the first two matches in charge, Portsmouth are undefeated in their last five matches.

However Portsmouth have managed just one win in their last four matches and avoided a humiliating defeat to bottom placed West Bromwich Albion last weekend when Peter Crouch canceled out Jonathan Greening's goal in the second half.

 

 

Newcastle United meanwhile are going through a barren patch of their own and have collected just four points from their last five matches. Newcastle go into their match against Portsmouth on the back of four straight draws.

While the run includes a brilliant defensive performance in their 0-0 draw against Chelsea, the Magpies should have had won last weekend against Stoke City after taking a 2-0 lead thanks to a brace from Michael Owen in the first half. However Stoke fought back to reduce the deficit through Mamady Sidibe before Abdoulaye Faye and snatched a point by scoring the equalizer late in injury time.

 

 

Defeats for Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers mean that the draw was enough for Newcastle secure a one point lead away from the relegation zone but manager Joe Kinnear will be hopeful that his side will manage to start registering wins as he looks to pull them away from the drop zone.
