Pompey appear to have finally reconciled themselves with the shock departure of manager Harry Redknapp to Tottenham. The club has started winning again and manager Tony Adams will hope he can continue to inspire them. However even he would have been disappointed with his side's 0-0 draw at beleaguered West Ham last weekend.

Jermaine Defoe had at least three chances to score easily, but he muffed them thus giving West Ham their first clean sheet of the season and more importantly one point. This point reversed a losing trend and eased some pressure on Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola.

 

 

One bad news from the game for Pompey was the ankle injury to midfielder Lassana Diarra, which could see him miss up to three weeks of action. Sol Campbell and Niko Kranjcar are also in a race to get fit in time for this tie.

Meanwhile Hull City reversed a trend of three losses on the trot with a 2-2 draw against Manchester City. Hull has lost to Manchester United, Chelsea and Bolton before this game, which will have restored some confidence in the players.

 

 

Daniel Cousin put Hull in front against Man City, but Stephen Ireland first leveled and then put his side ahead with a fine shot from 18 yards out. Just when it appeared Hull would sink to their fourth successive Premier League loss, Geovanni equalized for the Tigers to salvage one point from the game.

Hull are still placed sixth on the league table and Brown will hope his side can continue their fine start in the upcoming games as well.
