Portsmouth secured their first ever FA Cup win in more than 70 years with a hard fought 1-0 win over Cardiff City with Nwankwo Kanu scoring the only goal of the match early in the 37th minute. It was a deserved victory for Portsmouth who conceded just one goal throughout the competition and managed to dump out Manchester United in the quarter finals.

 

 

However Pompey are not expected to repeat the performance with the club struggling for form since the departure of Harry Redknapp to Tottenham Hotspur. Pompey have won just three of their 14 matches that manager Tony Adams has been in charge and the club has slowly slid down to 12th in the league table, just three points above the drop zone.

With Portsmouth scheduled to face Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa in their next three league meetings, Adams is expected to rest his key players for the game and Bristol City manager Gary Johnson will be hoping that his side will be able to put up a strong fight and cause an upset on Saturday.

 

 

Bristol City lost out to Middlesbrough in the third round of the competition last season with Stewart Downing canceling out Liam Fontaine’s goal in the first half before David Wheater scored the winner late in the second half.
