Pompey had barely celebrated a 2-0 win over Aston Villa when they were soundly trashed 2-0 by Tottenham last weekend. Manager Harry Redknapp was no allowed to use Jermain Defoe against Spurs and he missed the England striker sorely as Darren Bent and Jamie O'Hara took the game away from Portsmouth.

The loss still sees Portsmouth at the sixth spot on the Premiership table, but with the season approaching its home stretch, Redknapp could do without reverses like the Tottenham one. Redknapp was left to rue the fact that his second line of attackers like John Utaka are not good enough to score goals when desperately needed.

Sulley Muntari and Papa Bouba Diop could return from suspensions, while Sol Campbell is battling a knee injury.

Wigan meanwhile have flowered under Steve Bruce although there will be a few nerves jangling at the JJB Stadium. Wigan were reduced to 10 men, but still beat Bolton 1-0 two weeks ago. However against Blackburn, the Latics had no answer even though the Rovers lost Christopher Samba to a red card early in the game.

Roque Santa Cruz scored two goals, while Jason Roberts grabbed another to nullify Marlon King's strike for Wigan.

Heskey appears to have recovered from his foot injury, while Marcus Bent should be fit despite having shin issues. Portsmouth won the corresponding fixture 1-0 last year and also clinched the reverse fixture 2-0 this season.
