Portsmouth will hope that the international break does a world of good for their form as well as confidence as they welcome an equally despondent Bolton for their next match this weekend. Pompey have lost all four games so far and are languishing at the bottom of the league table. The Middle East takeover was completed toward the fag end of August giving manager Paul Hart little time to attract top talent to Fratton Park. Their last loss to Liverpool by a 2-3 margin was particularly painful as the Trotters had twice taken the lead through Kevin Davies and Tamir Cohen. Goals from Glen Johnson and Fernando Torres nullified those strikes, before Steven Gerrard netted in the winner.

Manager Gary Megson is facing a problem in the strike department ever since Nicolas Anelka signed for Chelsea two seasons ago. He has now roped in Croatia striker Ivan Klasnic in order to end the goal drought at the club.
