Manchester United face a tough task in the second leg if they are to maintain the defense for their Champions League crown when they play Porto on Wednesday. An 89th minute goal by Mariano Gonzalez put Porto in a very strong position to repeat their 2003-04 season performance to once again dump United out of the competition. The defending champions looked to have had secured a late victory when Carlos Tevez scored in the 85th minute only for Mariano to grab a vital second goal a minute from the final whistle.

 

 

United will now have to beat Porto at home, a feat no English team has managed in the European competition. Worryingly for manager Alex Ferguson, his side have lost on the last four occasions that they had to play an away game in the second leg.

Porto on the other hand have won seven of the eight times that they have manage to draw the first leg and will be confident of progressing to the next round by getting the required result in the second leg.
