Last season's campaign was Fenerbahce's best ever with the Turkish club reaching the quarter finals before losing out to Chelsea. Fenerbahce started their campaign this season in the best possible form, beating MTK Hungaria 2-0 at home in the first leg before thrashing them 5-0 in the return fixture.

However Partizan Belgrade proved to be a much tougher opponents in the third qualifying round, holding Fenerbahce to a 2-2 draw in the first leg though a 76th minute goal by Zoran Tosic ensured that Fenerbahce progressed to the group stages for the fourth time in five seasons.

 

 

They take on a Porto side that will be making its sixth consecutive group stage appearance in the tournament. Porto have qualified to the knockout stages in five of their last six campaigns and will be confident of grabbing one of the two qualification spots this season.

The Portuguese side has a very good home record in the competition, losing just one of their last 20 matches at home, with 10 wins under their belt. Porto have played twice against Turkish opponents before and were victorious on both the occasions, beating Denizlispor 8-3 on aggregate in their 2002-03 UEFA Cup clash and emerging 3-0 aggregate victors against Besiktas last season.
