Norwegian international John Carew put Villa ahead shortly after the interval and Ashley Young added a third on 62 minutes to give Martin O'Neill's men a 3-1 victory. Aston Villa ended up on the same number of points as Malaga and Atlante, but topped the group on goal difference.
