Poland appeared to be cruising to a comfortable 1-0 win over co-hosts Austria thanks to Roger Guerreiro's goal. However a last-minute penalty converted by Ivica Vastic meant both teams had to be happy with a point each.

Marcin Wasilewski was adjudged to have pulled Sebastian Prodl's shirt and the resulting penalty was calmly put away by Vastic. The draw Poland need a comprehensive win in their last game and hope Germany falter if they are to progress further in this tournament.

Croatia are already through to the quarterfinals thanks to an upset 2-1 win over favorites Germany. Darijo Srna and Ivica Olic were the heroes for Croatia, but Luka Modric also put in a fine performance. Lukas Podolski pulled one back for Germany with 11 minutes to go, but the German strikers were held at bay by a dogged Croatian defense.
