Paraguay will be wary of their opponents in their knockout stage clash against Japan. The South American side exceeded pre-tournament expectations by topping their group table but only managed to win one of their three group games.

Paraguay booked a place in the knockout stages after being held to a disappointing draw by New Zealand but Slovakia’s shock victory over Italy meant that Gerardo Martino finished at the top of their group table.

Japan on the other hand upset all the odds by dumping Denmark out of the competition with a 3-1 win in their final group match and progress to the next round. The Asian side was not expected to qualify out of the group and coach Takeshi Okada will be delighted with the result following a shaky start to the tournament.
