Panathinaikos will be in a confident mood going into their live UEFA Cup round of 32 clash against Rangers having managed a 0-0 draw away at the Ibrox Stadium in the first leg.
The Greek team will be hoping that they can put it across the Gers at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium in Athens this Thursday. Panathinaikos goalkeeper Mario Galinovic was the star of the first leg managing to keep out Rangers on every opportunity. ![]() Manager Walter Smith will have been disappointed with the performance of Rangers especially as Nacho Novo wasted three golden chances to put his team ahead. Daniel Cousin, Steven Davis and Lee McCulloch also had decent chances to seal the game for Rangers, but were unable to beat Galinovic in the Panathinaikos goal.
Loukas Vintra also had a decent chance for the visitors, but the two sides remained deadlocked with all to play for in Greece.
The problems are compounded for Rangers because they will again be without Jean-Claude Darcheville who will be serving the second of a three-match European ban. Moreover Steven Whittaker is still out with a hamstring strain, while Kevin Thomson is yet to recover from a hernia operation. ![]() Panathinaikos coach José Peseiro was disappointed with the draw, but hoped his side would do enough to win at home. The winner of this tie will play either Werder Bremen or SC Braga in the round of 16 in the UEFA Cup.
