Panama will have to beat Nicaragua in their final CONCACAF Gold Cup group match if they are to have any hopes of progressing to the quarter finals of the competition on Sunday. Gary Stempel's side narrowly avoided getting eliminated from the competition with a hard fought 1-1 draw against Mexico in their last match. Mexico looked on course for a second win in a row after taking an early lead in the 10th minute through Miguel Sabah but Blas Perez equalized for Panama before an altercation on the field saw both the teams lose momentum.

 

 

The result means Panama have the worst record among the third placed teams with just one point and will have to secure a comfortable victory against Nicaragua though that is still not enough to achieve qualification if both Haiti and Costa Rica win their games.

Nicaragua on the other hand will be hoping to bow out of the competition by putting an improved showing in their final match. Two defeats have all but confirmed elimination for Nicaragua but coach Otoniel Olivas will be hoping that his side can manage to collect at least a point from their final match.
