Lyon’s hopes of winning their eighth consecutive French title were dented when they lost 2-0 to lowly Valenciennes last week. Johan Audel scored twice in the space of six first half minutes for Valenciennes as Lyon were upset at the Stade Nungesser.

Under fire coach Claude Puel has said that he has no intentions of quitting, and has taken his players to the Alpine town of Evian ahead for a much needed break. Fortunately for Lyon, PSG lost to Rennes, and thus failed to take advantage of Lyon’s loss. Les Gones remain third, a point ahead of Champions League chasing PSG.

Nantes, who are involved in a four way battle along with Caen, Sochaux and St.Etienne to avoid the drop, lost to Le Havre last week. Christian Bekamenga gave Nantes the lead in the 23^rd minute, but goals from Mamadou Diallo and Florian Marange gave bottom placed Le Havre a shock win.

When Nantes met Lyon at home in December 2008, the visitors led 1-0 at half time thanks to a goal from Frederic Piquionne. However Croatian striker Ivan Klasnic cancelled out Piquionne’s strike on the hour mark, and then scored a late penalty to give the Canaries a 2-1 win at Stade de la Beaujoire.
