New summer signing Charlie Adam was the hero for Blackpool as his stunning individual effort proved to be the difference between Forest and the Seasiders on Saturday. It was Forest’s first loss in over a month since losing to Watford at home in mid August.

Forest beat Middlesbrough 2-1 in the second round to reach the third round for the first time in five years. Boro took the lead through Adam Johnson, but Billy Davies’ men responded on the hour mark through Luke Chambers. Forest grabbed a win when Radoslaw Majewski scored his first goal for the club from Dele Adebola’s cross in injury time.

A week after they had picked up their first league win of the new season against Wolves, Blackburn Rovers were beaten 3-0 at Goodison Park by fellow strugglers Everton. Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha grabbed a brace as the Toffees picked up their first win of the season. Rovers had quite a few chances of their own, but were unable to convert them.

David Dunn, David Hoilett and Morten Gamst Pedersen were on target for Rovers when they beat Gillingham 3-1 in the second round. Last season, Blackburn reached the fifth round before losing to eventual champions Manchester United.
