Forest’s 3-2 win over Watford at home in the Championship would have helped to restore their confidence after the loss at the hands of Swansea last week. Their home record has been good so far- they have not lost at the City Ground this season. It was at this venue when Forest thrashed Morecambe 4-0 in the first round of the League Cup. Welsh striker Robert Earnshaw scored twice in that game, with Newbold and Cohen also getting on the scoresheet. Arron Davies, Joe Garner and Lewis McGugan are not expected to play, with calf, knee and and thigh muscle injuries keeping them out respectively. Sunderland are rebuilding, and Roy Keane has used his money well in the transfer market. He has brought in Tainio, Malbranque, Chimbonda, Healy, Cisse amongst others- some clever signings in there. They denied Liverpool until the very end in their opener, and were broken down thanks to a piece of magic from Fernando Torres. Goals from Kieran Richardson and new signing Djibril Cisse saw them beat Spurs at White Hart Lane. Last year, Sunderland went out at the same stage of the competition ; losing 0-3 to Luton Town. Keane’s boys should fancy their chances against an injury hit team in a lower league. Last season, Forest beat Chester City on penalties before losing to Leicester City. It is sure to be a memorable match, for Brian Clough was a figure important to both teams.
