The Super Eagles lost 3-1 to defending African Nations Cup champions Egypt in their opening encounter despite taking a 12th minute lead through Chinedu Obasi Ogbuke. The Pharaohs fought back through an equalizer from Emad Moteab. Thereafter Egypt seized the initiative through goals from Ahmed Hassan and Mohammed Geda to rout the Nigerians.

Nigeria boss Shaibu Amodu is under the scanner following reports of a rift with veteran striker Kanu, although the latter has denied these reports. Kanu may start this game after poor performance by Yakubu in the opening game. Obafemi Martins is also in line to make it to the starting line-up.

Meanwhile minnows Benin will hope to pull off a shock result against Nigeria. Benin drew 2-2 against Mozambique in their opening game on Tuesday. Razak Omotoyossi gave Benin a lead through a penalty in the 15th minute. Dario Khan's own goal gave them a 2-0 lead in the 20th minute, but goals from Almiro Lobo and Carlos Goncalves let Mozambique back into the game.

Manager Michel Dussuyer will be hoping for a better performance from his defenders in this game. He has also expressed hope that Stephane Sessegnon can inspire Benin to a win in what will not only be an upset, but also a great result for a fledgling football side in Africa.
