Nigeria will be hoping to salvage their African Nations Cup campaign and know that only victories in their remaining two matches will ensure that they do progress to the next round.
Nigeria lost out to Ivory Coast in their opening match of the tournament with Salomon Kalou hitting the back of the net in the 66th minute. Even though Berti Vogts' side tried hard to find an equalizer late in the game, Ivory Coast held out to emerge victorious in what proved to be an extremely tight affair at the Sekondi Stadium.
With Ivory Coast expected to beat Benin in their second match and Mali already registering their first win of the tournament, Vogts will know that his side will have to defeat Mali in their second match if Nigeria is to qualify to the quarter finals from the group of death.
Meanwhile Mali coach Jean Francois Jodar will be hoping for an improved performance from his side when they take on Nigeria on Friday. Mali struggled to overcome an inferior Benin side and only managed to collect all three points thanks to a Frederic Kanoute penalty kick four minutes into the second half.
With Ivory Coast up next, Jodar will be hoping that his team manages to complete the qualification process to the quarter finals by collecting all three points against Nigeria, though the Super Eagles are favorites to win the match.
