After a stunning 2-1 away win over Liverpool in their midweek Champions League game, French giants Olympique Lyon will be full of confidence when they visit Stade Municipal du Ray to take on OGC Nice this weekend. Lyon condemned Liverpool to their fourth straight defeat in all competitions when they beat the Reds 2-1 at Anfield on Tuesday night. The hosts took the lead shortly before half time through Yossi Benayoun, but Lyon equalised in the second half through Maxime Gonalons. The youngster, a substitute for the injured Cris, headed home after Pepe Reina had produced outstanding saves to deny Jeremy Toulalan and Jean Makoun.

Cesar Delgado, another substitute, nodded in a late winner from captain Sidney Govou’s cross as OL picked up their third win in as many games in Group E. Lyon were beaten 2-0 by Sochaux last week in Ligue 1. It was Les Gones’ first defeat of the season, but they still lead Ligue 1 on goal difference from Montpellier.

Nice are second from bottom in Ligue 1 with eight points from nine games. They were thrashed 4-1 by Lorient last weekend. The result was a set back to manager Didier Olle Nicolle after a morale boosting win over Valenciennes the week before.

Lorient took the lead through Arnold Mvuemba on 39 minutes, and Marama Vahirua doubled it shortly after half time. Loic Remy pulled one back for Nice just after the hour mark, but two telling strikes from Sigamary Diarra and Kevin Gameiro crushed Nice’s hopes of a comeback. Nice also had Emerse Fae red carded late in the game, and the Ivory Coast midfielder will thus miss the game against Lyon.
