Newcastle’s last pre-season friendly was against Norwich City at Carrow Road. The Magpies went down 2-1 to the Canaries. Playing in their new blue change kit for the first time, Newcastle conceded the lead when some poor defending allowed opposition striker Chris Martin to net the opener on 38 minutes.

The Magpies responded through Shola Amoebi just after half time, with fellow substitutes Wayne Routledge and Xisco combining well to set him up. However first goal hero Martin scored again for Norwich in the 74^th minute as they ran out 2-1 winners at the final whistle.

PSV ran out 1-0 winners over German outfit FC Nuremberg in their last friendly. Ola Toivonen scored the only goal of the game. New signing Marcus Berg made his debut for the men from Eindhoven against Nuremberg. PSV finished third in the Eredivisie last season behind Twente and bitter rivals Ajax Amsterdam.
