Newcastle continued their miserable run in this season by losing the Wear-Tyne derby for the first time in 28 years at the Stadium of Light over the weekend. Goals from Djibril Cisse and a free-kick stunner from Kieran Richardson handed Sunderland a well-deserved win that saw their fans go delirious at the final whistle. Shola Ameobi had pulled the Magpies back into the game after Cisse had given the Black Cats a lead.

Richardson, who was unlucky to miss out against Fulham, made full use of the opportunity after Nicky Butt had brought down El-Hadji Diouf at the edge of the penalty area.

 

 

Meanwhile Joe Kinnear has agreed to a contract extension as the club continues to hunt for buyers and a permanent coach. Also the Magpies won defender Habib Beye's appeal against the red card he received in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City last week.

West Brom on the other hand have made a decent start to this campaign, but their efforts have been overshadowed by Hull City, who are going great guns in their maiden appearance in top flight Premiership football.

 

 

Hull beat West Brom 0-3 at the Hawthorns during the weekend riding high on goals from Kamil Zayatte, Geovanni and Marlon King. The Baggies had no answers to Hull's superlative football and will hope to regroup against Newcastle.
