The Magpies have started to rustle up some decent results that have lifted them out of the drop zone. Newcastle are currently 14th on the league table with 19 points from 17 games. Last week they beat Pompey 3-0 thanks to goals from Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Danny Guthrie.

This was the club's maiden away win of the season and gave a lot of relief to interim boss Joe Kinnear. Owen's fantastic form has also meant that he has attracted the attention of the top four and a move out of St James' Park in not ruled out in January although Owen may leave after the season.

 

 

Meanwhile Tottenham continued their revival under new boss Harry Redknapp as they held Manchester United to a 0-0 draw last week. Much-maligned goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was the hero with a fantastic save in the last minute to earn his side a precious point. The draw sees Spurs occupy the 15th spot on the table with 19 points from 17 games.

Redknapp has confirmed that he will do some business in the January transfer window and has said a striker will be his main priority. Spurs face Spartak Moscow during the midweek and Redknapp only has Frazier Campbell as his striker as Darren Bent is ill and Roman Pavlyuchenko is cup-tied.

 

 

The former Pompey boss has made it clear that he would love to see Robbie Keane back at White Hart Lane although Liverpool insist he is not for sale.
