Newcastle recorded their third straight win in the Championship as they beat Neil Warnock’s Crystal Palace 2-0 on Saturday. Kevin Nolan scored the first goal of the game after 103 seconds, while Ryan Taylor scored the second on 21 minutes. Both the goals were created by Argentine international Jonas Gutierrez. The Magpies are currently second in the Championship on goal difference.

Huddersfield suffered their first league defeat of the new season as they were beaten 1-0 by Bristol Rovers in their weekend game. Jeff Hughes’ 84^th minute penalty allowed Rovers to end Huddersfield’s unbeaten run. It was also the first League One game this season where Huddersfield failed to score. Lee Clark’s side had found the back of the net 12 times in three games prior to this fixture.

Huddersfield beat Stockport 3-1 in the first round. Jordan Rhodes opened the scoring for the Terriers just before half time, and scored his second shortly after the interval. Theo Robinson made it 3-0 with sixteen minutes to go, and while David O’Poole did score for Stockport late in the game, it was nothing more than a consolation.
