Striker Mark Viduka did not feature in the Arsenal game, but could be back for the Boro derby, while Habib Beye, Abdoulaye Faye, Geremi and Obafemi Martins are away on International duty.

Middlesbrough on the other hand would have heaved a sigh of relief after they beat Wigan 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jeremie Aliadiere. Manager Gareth Southgate can relax for the first time in many weeks, but he will be aware that a loss against Newcastle may alter their position yet again.

For now Boro are 13th on the Premier League table with 25 points from 24 games. Last season this fixture ended in a 0-0 draw and earlier this season the sides had settled for a 2-2 draw.
